School licensing (educational institutions)

Schools, colleges and training labs have a separate licensing system from the commercial one above. School licensing is per physical seat — a workstation in the lab — not per user account. Multiple students share one seat: different students in different classes use the same workstation at different times. Example: a school with 20 workstations and 100 students needs 20 school seats, not 100, because the seat is the workstation and the students share it.

School licensing is the MDK Fleet (Multi-Host) licensing model. A school runs more than one host, and MDK Solo (Single Host) is a single host, so Solo does not work for a school — schools need MDK Fleet. MDK Fleet is in development (V2); the school licensing described here is the Fleet model and is not available yet.

School pricing: $15 per seat, flat — no bundle, no per-seat discount. Minimum purchase: 25 seats per school licence, so the smallest school licence is 25 seats = $375 one-time. The school licence is a one-time purchase (perpetual). On top of it, an annual support fee of 10% of the licence value is mandatory — unlike the commercial model, where the 10% annual renewal is optional, a school must pay the 10% annual support fee.

Examples: 25 seats = $375 one-time + $37.50 per year mandatory support; 50 seats = $750 one-time + $75 per year; 100 seats = $1,500 one-time + $150 per year. To buy a school licence, contact TrimKore through the Support page or email sales@trimkore.com. See the schools page for the full school model.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a seat? One enabled user account on one licensed host. A seat is not a concurrent connection and not a physical workstation. The host user (console admin) is separate and does not count as a seat. Example: a lab with 20 computers and 100 enabled student accounts needs 100 seats, even though only 20 students can be connected at once.
Do schools get a different licence?Yes. Educational institutions have a separate licensing system on MDK Fleet (Multi-Host, in development, V2): $15 per seat, where a seat is a physical workstation — multiple students share one seat. Minimum 25 seats. A 10% annual support fee is mandatory. See the school licensing section above.
Does it include hardware? No. MultiDeskKore is software only. You still need the host computer, plus one device, display, keyboard and mouse per user. Hardware and Microsoft licences are separate.
Can different classes share the lab?Yes. Each class has its own user accounts, and each user gets their own separate desktop session with their own files. Accounts are created and managed from the local console, so a new class can be set up by creating its accounts and disabling the old ones when they are no longer needed.
Does it work without internet?Yes, for local operation: sessions, licence validation, an activated trial and the console all work with the website unreachable. Only buying seats, support tickets, host-transfer requests and getting a trial key need the website.
What happens if the host fails?Sessions run on the host, so if the host is down, every session on it is unavailable until the host is back. Back up the host the way you would back up any Windows workstation. MultiDeskKore data lives under %ProgramData%\MultiDeskKore\ and in HKLM\SOFTWARE\MultiDeskKore.
Can I add seats later?Yes. Add user accounts to your existing host licence.
Is this a monthly subscription? No. The software licence is a one-time purchase.
How do I pay?Submit your order. Your licence is issued after payment verification.
How does the trial work?Register on the trial page and verify your email. We email you the download link — download the installer, install it, create the admin user in the console, then get your trial key from the console Licence page. The trial lasts 3 days and covers 1 host + 2 remote users — the host user plus 2 remote user accounts.
What happens when the trial ends?Trial access expires. Buy a licence to continue using MultiDeskKore. Nothing is charged for the trial.
What is the refund policy? All purchases are final and non-refundable. The free 3-day trial is how you evaluate MultiDeskKore before buying. See the Refund Policy.
Who can sign in?Only user accounts created through the MultiDeskKore console (plus the console admin) can sign in. Accounts made directly in Windows are stopped.
Does the host user count as a seat? No. The host user (console admin) is separate and does not count; the seats are the remote user accounts.
